Testimony to generosity

THE attractive church of St Peter at Oughtrington, Lymm, viewed through the bare branches of a nearby tree, contrasts sharply with the modern street lamp.
Consecrated on St Peter’s Day, June 29, 1872, the church is a fine example of Victorian Gothic architecture.
The Apse and the vaulted roof are modelled on Westminster Abbey.
Standing in an elevated position, the graceful spire can be seen for miles around.
The church has been used continuously as a place of pray and worship since it was built.
It stands testimony to the generosity of businessman George Charnley Dewhurst and the vision of his wife, members of a well known Lymm family.
