Town centre road closed after crash

THERE was traffic chaos in Warrington town centre today when busy Mersey Street was closed following a road crash.
A Citroen car collided with scaffolding near the junction with Academy Street.
Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene.
An air ambulance was also involved but was not eventually required.
A man – believed to have been driving the car – and a woman passenger are understood to have been injured.
They were freed from the car by fire crews who had to cut the roof off the car.
They were then taken to Warrington Hospital. Their condition is not yet known.
