WARRINGTON GPs are asking people to ensure they order repeat prescriptions in time for Christmas and the New Year.
Surgeries will be closed for a few days over the festive season and GPs are concerned that some vulnerable people who rely on regular medication or home oxygen supplies could be in trouble if they do not plan ahead.
Warrington GP and chairman of the NHS Warrington Clinical Leadership Team, Dr Andrew Davies said: “We are asking all our patients to think ahead. There is a real danger that if they have problems with their medication, they could end up seriously ill and even in hospital, which is the last thing they want over Christmas.
“Our advice is to check where you are up to with your medication and if necessary contact your practice for a repeat prescription or for a check-up.”
Local GPs are backing the Choose Well campaign to promote information to help people to “stay well over the winter,” and to reinforce the message that 999 and A&E services are only for those who are seriously ill or for emergencies.
Dr Davies said: “We want to avoid people getting poorly whenever possible. By keeping on top of your medication you can help yourself and help the NHS to manage its resources over the winter period.”
