THE Mayor of Warrington Cllr John Joyce tested gym equipment when he visited Woolston Neighbourhood Hub.
He was at the centre to unveil a plaque to mark the official opening of phase two of improvements.
The Mayor said: “I think this hub and the concept behind it, with so many providers co-located on the one site, will make a real difference to the local community and enable the council and partner organisations to work together to address health improvement issues within Woolston, Rixton and further afield.”
There were also two special guests at the opening, Abbey and Adam Garnett, aged four and seven. They won a competition to name and design a logo for the nursery in the hub.
They chose the name “Butterflies” for the Sure Start Children’s Centre, which is the final children’s centre to be opened in Warrington.
Cllr Bob Timmis, the borough council’s executive member for leisure and skills, said: “I am delighted to see this project come together and open to residents. The facilities that are already in use have proved popular and I’m sure the number of users will continue to grow.”
Since the opening of phase one in September, membership numbers at both the library and leisure centre have soared.
Facilities at the centre include squash courts, a dance studio, swimming pool, fitness suite, library and children’s centre.
