“DON’T tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon”.
This is the philosophy of Appleton Thorn Primary School, which has been judged “outstanding” by Ofsted.
Inspectors’ comments included: “This is an outstanding school. The driving force in its success is excellent leadership”, “Pupils are excellent ambassadors for the school. They are articulate, enthusiastic and independent learners” and “the school is at the forefront of innovative curriculum design”.
Headteacher Jackie Stillings said: “I am delighted and so proud to be able to share the results of our latest Ofsted report. It shows that small schools have big ambitions that can lead to huge achievements.”
Chairman of governors John Warren said: “I am extremely proud that Ofsted have recognised the school in this way. In this school we have a big team – staff, governors and parents who all work together at the heart of the community to provide excellent, exciting and innovative education. We are committed to giving our pupils the best possible start in life and will not stand still but continue to improve.”
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, the borough council’s executive member for education and younq peopIe, added: “An excellent outcome. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you and congratulations to all the pupils, staff and governors for their continued hard work and commitment. Well done.”
The inspection was carried out in November by three inspectors who observed 13 lessons taught by nine different teachers.
