POLICE have responded to more than 150 reports of collisions on Cheshire roads today – and the number is still rising.
This morning icy conditions persisted throughout much of the day and are expected to worsen again this evening.
More than 76 crashes occurred between 6am and 2pm.
Warrington, along with Congleton, Winsford and Macclesfield, was one of the worst affected areas.
Despite scores of collisions, some involving up to 10 cars, none of the injuries reported have been life threatening.
A serious collision was reported on the M62/M6 Croft interchange this morning, involving an HGV and a number of cars that had left the carriageway after skidding on the icy road. There were no serious injuries reported.
The majority of calls to Police reported cars skidding off the road, or colliding with other vehicles due to the poor road conditions.
As the evening rush hour approached police issued the following advice:
1. Only make journeys that are absolutely necessary.
2. Ensure your car is fully defrosted with full visibility
3. Maintain a safe and constant speed and avoid sudden braking that can cause your car to skid.
Police say more detailed accident statistics will be issued later.
