CHESHIRE boys and girls’ teams came out on top in the English Handball Association Under 16 Schools Regional Championships at Birmingham.
Ten teams competed with strong squads competing for the number one spots.
Competition was fierce, and with a league and knock-out style tournament there was no margin for error as one bad performance could result in elimination.
Cheshire girls and boys topped their leagues in the first stage of the tournament and Bedfordshire also finished in poll position in their group. All these teams went into the knock-out stages with a 100 per cent win rate.
Cheshire Boys progressed into the final with a comfortable win over Staffordshire and met Bedfordshire in the final.
Both teams were unbeaten and it was a high-scoring match with both teams showing a lot of promise. But something had to give and Cheshire eventually showed themselves the stronger team to win 14-10.
The Cheshire Girls defeated Merseyside in the final 10-6.
Leanne Kindley of Cheshire was one of three top scorers in the girl’s tournament and Tyler of Cheshire took one of the top three places for the boys.
