Caring for carers

WARRINGTON wants to make sure all carers are aware of the services available to them – and the borough council used “Carer’s Rights Day” to put out a caring message.
Depending on the circumstances, carers have the right to financial support, protection for their state pension if they have given up work to care and rights to request flexible working if they juggle work and care.
Even people who are not entitled to claim benefits can access a range of help such as equipment, practical help and getting access to a break.
Coun Roy Smith, the council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, said: “Carers make such an enormous contribution to society and it’s important that they access all of the support that’s available to them. I hope that any carers reading this recognise that they are entitled to help and get in touch.”
Carers in Warrington can contact the Access Social Care team on 01925 444239 or Warrington Carers Centre on 01925 644212.
