WARRINGTON is to host the regimental homecoming of 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment following their deployment to Afghanistan.
The event on Tuesday November 30 will begin with a service of remembrance and celebration at St Elphin’s Parish Church, Warrington followed by a parade and reception at the Parr Hall.
The Mayor, Coun John Joyce, will take the salute from the Town Hall steps together with Colonel Steve Davies, Deputy Colonel, Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment. The Mayor will inspect the troops in Queen’s Gardens.
Church Street, from Manchester Road to Farrell Street, will be closed from 10am until 2pm, but access will be maintained to Farrell Street and Sainsbury’s.
Rolling road closures along the parade route will mean brief delays while the regiment marches through.
The car park next to the Town Hall will be closed to the public until 12.30pm.
The service of remembrance will take place at 11.45am and the parade, via Church Street, Buttermarket Street, Sankey Street, the Town Hall, Winmarleigh Street, etc to Queen’s Gardens, will take place between 1-2pm
