AN information service for families and young people in Warrington has received a national award.
Warrington’s Families Information Service, run by the borough council, received a Family First Award, the quality award for information advice and guidance recognised by the National Association of Family Information Services and the Department for Education.
The service offers families, young people and practitioners’ advice about topics including childcare options, grants, play
schemes and activities in the local area. It caters for those aged from nought to 19 years – or up to 25 years for those with additional needs.
An assessor who visited praised the service’s accessibility and the range of information provided by phone, email, on the internet and in the community.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, (pictured) the council’s executive member for education and young people, said: “I would like to congratulate the team on this award and thank them for the very good work that they do in our communities supporting residents.”
The team has identified key areas where they would like to develop the service, such as strengthening links with employers and increasing involvement with youth groups and provision.
The service can be contacted by calling 01925 443131 or emailing fis@warrington.gov.uk
