A place of rest for shoppers

A BENCH which provided a resting place for elderly people until it fell into a state of disrepair, should be replaced Stockton Heath Parish Council decided.
Members were told that the bench on the footway in Walton Road had been removed by the borough council who had asked if there was a demand for it as it would cost £300 to replace.
Coun Dorothy Robb said she had spoken to a number of people who had asked for the bench to be returned.
She said: “Elderly people do appreciate the bench as a place to rest, especially if they are carrying heavy shopping.
“It is a good resting point for people walking back from the village.”
Members heard the borough council would assess if there was sufficient demand for a replacement.
