Woman robbed in town centre

POLICE at Warrington today appealed for witnesses of an incident when a woman was robbed of her handbag in the town centre.
The robbery took place around 12.15pm on Monday (November 8) in Crown Street.
The victim was a 50-year-old local woman who had alighted from a train at Central Station and was walking along a small footpath which emerges near to Gala Bingo on the Cockhedge Shopping Centre.
She felt someone pulling at her shoulder and turned to see a man wrenching at the straps of her handbag.
She tried to hang on to the bag and was pulled to the ground.
The offender then grabbed the bag, and ran off down Crown Street and into Winwick Street.
As a result of the incident the woman was left shaken and with grazing to her knee.
Police say the offender was aged between 16-18, about 5ft 7 inches tall and slim in build. He had short dark hair, and was wearing a creamy coloured canvas style hooded coat with a blue stripe on it.
As he fled he was carrying the woman’s brown leather handbag.
At the time the area was busy with people, and police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the offence, or who may have seen the offender in the area, to make contact with them.
