16 bonfires and one arson attack!

ON a night when fire crews at Warrington were called out to deal with 16 out-of-control bonfires, arsonists set fire to a private garage after smashing thedoor.
And wheelie bins have emerged as one of the favourite fuels for Guy Fawks bonfires. Fire crews found the axles of 13 wheeled bins in the ashes of one bonfire in Ulverston Avenue, Orford!
One firefighter said: “People were obviously still leaving their bins out on Bonfire Night – which is not a very good idea.”
None of the out-of-control bonfires were endangering property and in many cases fire crews simply left them to burn themselves out.
The arson attack involved a garage at the rear of Mayfield Avenue, Grappenhall.
A door had been smashed and burning materials dropped inside, where a vehicle was stored.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tacked the outbreak with two hosereels.
A firefighter commented: “The building was well alight when we got there.”
