Man attacked in own home

A 57-year-old Warrington man was savagely beaten up in his own home in the early hours of the morning.
Police are investigating the attack which occurred at an address in Broadbent Avenue, Latchford early on Sunday morning.
The victim answered a knock on his door and allowed the caller in.
There was some conversation and the caller then demanded cash. When the householder refused, he was viciously assaulted.
The victim was then forcibly restrained by the offender and left injured for several hours before help was summoned.
The offender had left, after stealing the victim’s mobile phone, but police later arrested a 43-year-old local man. He was questioned and later freed on bail until January 5.
The victim was taken to hospital suffering from a serious hand injury and other significant injuries. He is still detained in hospital but is expected to recover.
DC Christine Maffit, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was a particularly vicious attack and we are certain that there are members of the local community who may know who is responsible.
“We would urge those individuals to come forward and speak to police, or alternatively information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111”
