WARRINGTON’S Park Royal Hotel has been shortlisted for a top “green” award.
The Stretton hotel is in line for a Hotel Catey Award in the “Green Hotel of the Year” category.
The Hotel Cateys are the industry’s only truly independent benchmark of operational excellence.
They recognise, reward and celebrate the unsung heroes who work tirelessly to support the hotel sector by delivering an exceptional guest experience day in, day out.
The “Green Hotel of the Year Award” will be awarded to the hotel that is deemed to have taken the most innovative steps to neutralise its impact on the environment in the past 12 months.
Judges will be looking for evidence of a reduction in landfill, water usage and waste, investment in new technology, energy savings, education and motivation of employees.
Park Royal general manager Paul Gallon said: “”We were absolutely delighted when we found out that we had been shortlisted.
“Over the last 12 months we have been totally engaged with and committed to achieving our environmental objectives and to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award is a true testament to the hard work, dedication and professionalism of the whole team here at The Park Royal.
“I am hoping that our results will speak for themselves – we have already been accredited with a Silver status from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, have achieved an 11.4 per cent reduction in electricity usage and a 19.9 per cent reduction in gas, which in CO2 terms is the equivalent of flying twice round the world!
“Recycling and water management policies have been implemented and we have appointed an in-house ‘Green Team’ who work to action initiatives with staff, guests and the local community.”
