TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington have sounded an alarm about cold callers following a rash of incidents across the borough.
Residents are being warned of the dangers of giving out personal details to cold callers.
A high number of householders across the borough have been receiving telephone sales calls offering alarm systems.
The trader will usually try to secure an appointment and will often promote a special offer price for a limited time period.
Coun Mike Biggin, (pictured) the borough council’s executive member for climate change and public protection, said: “I urge residents to exercise extreme caution before giving anyone your personal details or inviting traders into your home. If you are genuinely interested in purchasing an alarm for your home always obtain quotes from at least three reputable companies, preferably those that are personally known to you or have been recommended by friends.
“I cannot stress strongly enough the danger of allowing an unknown person into your home, particularly if it is to assess home security. Householders are placing huge trust in traders who come onto their property and are allowing them access to personal information regarding security, vulnerability and their personal possessions.
“There is a real risk that this information could be misused if it fell into the wrong hands.”
