Updated: driver trapped in cab

MOTORISTS are being advised to avoid the M62 at Junction 9, Winwick, near Warrington as emergency services struggle to release a trapped lorry driver following a four-vehicle pile-up.
The eastbound carriageway – Manchester – has been closed and there is no access to the M6 at this junction.
Police say the accident occurred shortly after 8.35am on the eastbound carriageway.
A heavy lorry and up to three other vehicles – one of them a smaller lorry -were involved.
The driver of the smaller lorry has suffered serious injuries and is trapped in his crushed cab. Efforts are going on to try and free him.
The westbound carriageway was also closed temporarily from from Junction 10 at Croft to allow air ambulance and emergency services access to the crash scene but has now re-opened.
But motorists are still strongly advised to avoid the general area and seek alternative routes where possible.
