Police raid on cannabis factory

A CANNABIS factory has been raider and thousands of fireworks seized by police at Warrington.
Almost 50 Cannabis plants – and the equipment used to grow them – were discovered in a metal storage container when officers raided a site in Collins Green Lane, Burtonwood.
The plants and the equipment were seized and taken away for further forensic examination.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis. He helped police with their enquiries throughout the day and later received an adult caution.
In a separate container on the same site officers discovered 10,000 fireworks ). These were seized by Trading Standards officers and removed from the site.
Sergeant Mark Spaven, of Warrington West Neighbourhood Police Unit said: “A substantial amount of fireworks were found at the site and enquiries are continuing with Trading Standards to find out where they originally came from and what their intended use was.”
Coun Mike Biggin, (pictured) Warrington Borough Council’s executive member for public protection, added: “The storage, supply and possession of fireworks are tightly controlled by detailed laws. Officers of the Public Protection Service undertake visits to all premises selling and storing fireworks to ensure that the fireworks are being stored in a safe manner on the premises.
“Officers of the Public Protection Service are continuing their investigations into this incident. The service views any breaches of the legislation governing the safe storage of fireworks very seriously. Members of the public and retailers are urged to report any suspicious incidents involving fireworks to either Public Protection or the Police.”
The raid, last Friday, followed on from two others on Wednesday and Thursday when police found a small amount of cannabis in Evelyn Street, Warrington and also raided a house in Haryngton Avenue, Bewsey A man received a street warning.
