Flagging up alcohol awareness

ORGANISATIONS across Warrington are joining forces to flag up Alcohol Awareness Week.
This year the week – October 18-24 – is taking the theme “alcohol and childhood.”
Events during the week will focus on both the issue of alcohol use by young people and the impact of a parent’s drinking on their children.
The idea is to raise awareness of all alcohol misuse issues, promote the local services that are available and offer support to people who need it.
Organisations from across the borough are supporting alcohol awareness week, including the council, NHS Warrington, Warrington Carers Centre, Addiction Dependency Solutions (ADS) and Warrington Hospital.
Coun Roy Smith, the borough council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, said: “It’s fantastic that so many organisations have pulled together for alcohol awareness week. Children are often forgotten victims of this problem so I am particularly pleased to see attention brought to families who need help.”
A number of activities are taking place during the week including you carers running a drop-in session at the Peace Centre on Thursday, October 21 (3.30-6pm), a youth advice shop at Phaze, at Connexions, on Monday October 18, 3.30-5.15pm) and an open day at ADS, 4, Museum Street, on Thursday October 21 (12noon-2pm).
Anyone who wants to speak to someone in confidence can call ADS for adults 01925 428465, Phaze, for young people o 01925 442883 of Footsteps, for families and carers on 01925 244524
