DETECTIVES at Warrington are investigating an armed robbery outside a supermarket early this morning.
The raid was outside the Tesco store on Warrington Road, Penketh at around 5.50am.
Two security officers were servicing a cash machine outside the store when they were approached by two masked men armed with a handgun and a knife.
One of the security officers, a 27 year old man from the Merseyside area, was handcuffed by the men and threatened with a knife.
The second security officer, a 40 year old also local to Merseyside, was subjected to threats by the man carrying the handgun. Demands were made by the men who then left the scene stealing an unknown amount of cash. Fortunately, although shaken as a result of their ordeal, the security officers were not injured.
Detectives are now examining CCTV from the local area and appeal to anyone in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident or anyone behaving suspiciously, to contact DC Rob McLoughlin or DC Chris Maffit on 0845 458 0000.
The offenders spoke with a Liverpool accent.
