Guard against burglars

DETECTIVES are urging residents across Warrington to be on their guard against burglars.
Traditionally at this time of year, as the dark nights draw in there tends to be an increase in the number of burglaries reported.
Officers are advising residents to remain security conscious and to reassess their current security in a bid to reduce their chances of falling foul of thieves.
Detective Inspector Matt Durcan said: “We are urging residents across Warrington to be on their guard against thieves.
“We are increasing night time patrols as crime trends in recent years have shown an increase in burglaries at this time of year.
“People are being encouraged to reassess their current security measures in a bid to reduce their chances of being targeted.
“Officers are committed to tackling burglaries in the area and we are doing all we can to prevent further burglaries and to detect those that have already happened, but local residents can help in tackling this type of crime.”
Residents are urged to remain security conscious and to follow a few simple steps such as ensuring windows and doors and closed and secured, keeping valuable out of sight, keeping garages and outbuildings locked and consider motion sensitive lights, using gravel which is noise if trodden on and planting prickly bushes in vulnerable spots.
Drivers are being urged to play their part too – by keeping their car keys safe and secure at all times.
DI Durcan added: “Residents across Warrington can join in the fight against this type of crime – neighbours can help by keeping a watchful eye on their own neighbourhood and look out for people acting suspiciously in their area.”
