Veterans' chance for a hero's return

WORLD War 2 veterans in Warrington and their widows should apply to the Big Lottery Fund’s “Heroes Return” programme, an MP says.
Warrington North MP Helen Jones said “Heroes Return” provides funding for WW2 veterans for travel and accommodation costs to visit the places where they saw active service.
The grants are available for veterans or their widows, along with spouses and a carer. They can also receive funding to take part in an official commemoration in the UK.
However, the trips must be taken by the end of this year.
Veterans who have already taken trips but were unaware of “Heroes Return” can apply for retrospective funding until January 31 next year.
Ms Jones said: “Over 10,000 people have secured funding to return to places like Italy, France, Greece, Holland, Germany, the Far East and Australia. I would encourage any of our veterans, or their widows or widowers, who would like to return to the places they served or go to the commemorative event to apply now.”
More information can be obtained from the “Heroes Return” helpline on 0845 0000 121 or e-mail [email protected] or visit the website at www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/heroesreturn.
