A FREE family day out on Warrington’s doorstep will come on Sunday, September 12 as part of the Heritage Open Days scheme.
Norton Priory Museum and Halton Castle will both be open for the day with a free return shuttle bus running between the two sites.
Halton Castle, dating from Norman times, has an elevated position and commands views across Lancashire, Cheshire, Flintshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
The castle’s history has many stories to tell with Civil War sieges, prisoners being locked up, sunken gardens, games on the bowling green and an observation post during World War 2.
A spokesperson said: “There will be plenty to do for all the family, including free entrance to Norton Priory Museum and Gardens, tours of Halton Castle including a walk through Halton Village back to Norton Priory, birds of prey flying high, Civil War living history camp, dressing up and family craft activities to try out.
Norton Priory is open from 10 am until 5 pm and activities will take place at the castle from 1pm until 4 pm. There is no parking available at Halton Castle.
