A MATURE student from Warrington has been commissioned by her former college to create an art work.
Lisa
Wood, who recently completed a BTEC Foundation Diploma at Warrington
Collegiate, is now furthering her creative skills at the prestigious
Wimbledon College of Art – University of Arts, London.
She is
studying for a BA in Fine Art Sculpture and has been commissioned by the
collegiate to create a steel installation for its campus.
The
sculpture, titled Brick Dome, is an artistic interpretation of her
garden and the peace and security felt within its brick walls.
Before
starting her studies Lisa, 38, spent six years working as a Tax
Inspector. After having her first child she decided to pursue her
interest in art.
She said: “I would never have had the confidence to
apply to such a highly regarded institution without the encouragement of
the staff at Warrington Collegiate.
“The course provided many
experiences that have allowed me to pursue my aim of being a sculptor.
Being able to express my artistic vision is a long held desire and I am
grateful for all the wonderful support I have received.”
Paul Hafren,
collegiate principal, said: “Lisa has set a very positive example for
many people looking to change their careers. We admire how far she has
come and are thrilled to have a piece of her artwork on the campus.
“She has truly lived up to her full potential and we hope other students at the collegiate will take this on board.”
