£125,000 pledge for charity

A WARRINGTON shopping centre has pledged to raise £125,000 for local charity St Rocco’s Hospice by September next year.
Golden Square Shopping Centre has chosen the hospice as its charity of the year and will raise funds to help develop a hospice outreach service in the community.
St Rocco’s Hospice has been established in Warrington for 25 years and provides specialist care for patients with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
It is currently facing a strain on in-patient services – either from patients who want to be admitted but cannot be due to lack of beds or from those who wish to spend their last days at home but lack the specialist support to do so.
The outreach service will involve specialist nurses from the hospice caring for patients in their own homes, either at the end of life or as a night sitting service offering family support.
Golden Square aims to raise funds to run the basic level outreach service for one year while the service establishes itself.
Centre marketing manager Ian Cox said: “Golden Square shoppers are renowned for their generosity as we have seen time and time again with our successful fundraising campaigns.
“St Rocco’s Hospice is an incredibly worthy cause as it’s the only facility of its kind in the Warrington area. I am delighted that we have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to support the great work the hospice does through our fundraising for families across the region.”
Hospice appeals manager Claire Manock said: “At St Rocco’s Hospice we aim to help our patients and their families at what is often a very sad and difficult time in their lives. We rely so much on the help of the local business community to fund the work we do.”
