Road closed after man attacked

POLICE sealed off a town centre street at Warrington early today after a man was attacked.
A 39-year-old local man suffered a serious head injury in the assault shortly after 4.30am in Academy Way.
He was taken to Warrington Hospital by ambulance and received a number of stitches in a head wound. He was then detained in hospital, although his condition was described as stable.
A 25 year old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, and remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
Academy Way was closed between the junction of Bridge Street and Bank Street and police warned this would impact on public transport and commuters during the morning rush hour.
