WARRINGTON Rotary Club is aiming to plant 5,000 bulbs in the town on October 2 to help earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
It will be joining with other Rotary clubs, the Eden Project in Cornwall and the International Flower Bulb Centre in Holland to try and set a new Guinness World Record for bulb planting.
The project is called Focus on the Crocus.
Rotary are contact schools, community groups, Groundwork, the National Trust and other bodies to encourage them to take part planing as many bulbs as possible in one hour.
It is intended the bulbs should be planted in groups of 1,000.
It is hoped they will be in full flower to celebrate “Rotary Day – Thanks for Life” on February 23 next year.
“Thanks for Life” is a project involving the clubs and members of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland to highlight the humanitarian work of Rotarians with a number one aim of helping to eradicate polio throughout the world.
Warrington Rotary Club is looking for suggestions for locations where it can plant the bulbs in the town. The club is inviting schools and community groups to offer their suggestions.
A spokesman said: “The resulting blaze of colour next spring will be a reminder of the essential need to continue the fight to eradicate polio from our world.”
