POLICE are seeking a man they believe could be a key witness of a serious sexual assault on a 24-year-old woman at Warrington Central Station.
They have today issued a picture of the man they believe witnessed the attack at about 6am on Saturday, July 17.
Detective Inspector Andrea Rainey of British Transport Police said : “I want to stress that this man has absolutely no connection with the incident other than as a witness.
“We believe he was at the station at the time and may well have witnessed some of the events leading up to – and after – the assault.”
Anyone who recognises this man, or has further information about the incident, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
DI Rainey added: “Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare on the rail network and passengers and staff can rest assured that BTP will continue to do everything in its power to ensure the railway is as safe as possible.”
A 25-year-old man from Warrington has been arrested in relation to the incident and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Why would someone accused of a serious sexual assault be granted bail?
Because no doubt, if they weren’t, it would be against their human rights – isn’t everything these days?
