MP hits out over police cuts

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones is bracing herself for an increase in crime – and pinning the blame firmly on the Liberal Democrats.
Ms Jones (right) has slammed the Lib Dems for supporting cuts in police funding after raising the issue in the House of Commons.
She said: “The ConDem alliance is already planning to cut police funding in Cheshire by £1.9 million.
“Yet only recently, here in Warrington, the Lib Dems campaigned on a ‘Stop the Police Cuts’ message.
“In a leaflet issued before the election the Lib Dems said: ‘Just to keep force levels where they are today the police need a grant increase of at least five per cent’.
“Yet now they cut the budget with further cuts to come in the autumn. You simply can’t trust a word they say.
“Unfortunately, their actions will reduce the number of officers and PCSOs on the streets and increase the risk of crime.”
