College confirms its green credentials

WARRINGTON Collegiate has confirmed its green credentials with a commendation at the annual Green Gown Awards, established to find the UK’s most sustainable universities and colleges.
The college was awarded Highly Commended in the Green ICT category for introducing a number of eco-friendly initiatives to improve the sustainability of its computing and IT facilities.
Projects undertaken included power saving on desktops, developing a “shutdown and power off” button to replace the normal Windows start, shutdown/restart/logoff options and server virtualisation.
The winning entries were drawn from 191 applications, representing nearly 110 colleges and universities from across the UK.
Principal Paul Hafren (right) said: “As a college, we’re constantly endeavouring to reduce our environmental footprint, so it’s fantastic for the Green Gown judges to recognise that we’re leading the way in this area.
“We have already introduced solar panelling on campus and have plans to improve the collegiate’s sustainability even further in the coming year.”
