A very good community event

NO serious incidents were reported to police in the town centre during Warrington Walking Day.
Two people were arrested between Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday – a 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, both from Warrington.
The woman was charged with being drunk and disorderly and the man for a breach of a Section 27 “Direction to Leave” notice. Enquiries are continuing in his case.
Five “Direction to Leave” notices, which require a person to leave an area for 48 hours, were issued throughout the night to minimise the likelihood of alcohol-related crime or disorder taking place.
Acting Inspector Neil Drum said: “There were no major incidents reported in the town centre during Warrington Walking Day. The town centre was busier than usual but there were no major issues in terms of policing. It was a very good community event and everyone was in good spirits and enjoyed the event sensibly.
“Officers policed the route during the day and then kept an eye on those who headed into town for a drink in the afternoon and evening.”
Acting Inspector Drum said police were committed to tackling any issues in the town centre and would continue to take positive action against anyone found to be breaking the law or causing a nuisance.
He added: “Local officers are also continuing to work closely with licensees to reduce the chances of alcohol related crime and disorder taking place – and to ensure that the town centre is a safe place for everyone.”
