Wizards in derby test

WARRINGTON Wizards entertain neighbours Liverpool Buccaneers in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National tomorrow (Thursday) evening, kick off is 8.00pm at Wilderspool Stadium.
The Wizards have opened the season with two impressive victories and will be looking to continue in the same vein against the Buccaneers who themselves will be hoping to repeat last season’s first ever victory at Wilderspool.
Head Coach Chris Campbell is looking forward to the game. He said, “We have had a good start but know that there is a long way to go. The players have really responded to what Mike Grady and I have asked of them so far. Training has been very good and the lads have enjoyed getting stuck in with the hard work. The team spirit is great and that is showing in the way that we are playing. Liverpool will provide us with another tough challenge but we will be ready for them. We want to make Wilderspool a fortress once again so that teams don’t enjoy coming there to play us.”
Campbell added, “Playing under the floodlights is something that we enjoy and hopefully the supporters will come out in force once again and get behind us. This is our local derby and a lot of the lads know each other so that should add a little extra spice to the game. We have had nearly two weeks to prepare for this and will be raring to go come kick off time.”
For Thursday’s game the Wizards will have Danny Shaw, Nick Braide and Anthony Braide available after they missed the Hemel game and they are also boosted by the return to the club of Chris Mellor. Dave Yii (holiday) and Craig Middlemore who damaged his ankle in training on Tuesday night are likely to be the only absentees.
