Lack lustre Town held at Salford

ANOTHER lack lustre performance from Warrington Town saw them held 1-1 at lowly Salford City.
Salford took the lead on 31 minutes when Rhodri Giggs, brother of Manchester United star Ryan, was gifted a free header as the Town defence was again cruelly exposed.
Warrington’s best chance of the half fell to leading goal scorer Chris Gahgan who fired the ball at the keeper’s feet, when a foot either side would have found the back of the net.
Town’s defensive injury woes continued as recent signing Duffy limped off just before the break, with Phil Hadland reverting to right back and youngster Tom Rutter (pictured right) out on the wing.
Rutter added some pace to the Town attack and they eventually levelled when Tony Evans (pictured top) fired home from close range after 61 minutes.
Chances were few and far between after that as both teams seemed content with a draw.
Warrington now face a tough trip to Colwyn Bay on Tuesday night when they will be hoping it will be fourth time lucky, with the game being postponed on three previous occasions, due to flooding, ice and snow!
It will be a quick return to his former club for new signing Louis Corrigan who had a steady debut at left-back against Salford.
But with just one win in their last eight games manager Joey Dunn will be hoping to see his team get back to winning ways.
One plus note for the Warrington fans was the sight of influential skipper Mike Tomlinson doing light training before the Salford game. Tomlinson hopes to be back in action within a fortnight.
He has been sorely missed as Warrington’s last win was against Prescot when Tomlinson suffered his knee injury after scoring in the 3-0 victory.
