BUDDING plumbers from across the North West are to battle it out at Warrington for the title “Apprentice Plumber of the Year”.
The North West regional heat of the HIP – Heating Engineers, Installers Plumbers – UK Apprentice Plumber of the Year award is taking place at Warrington Collegiate on Monday February 15.
One lucky up-and-coming plumbing maestro will go forward to the national finals.
NVQ and City & Guilds level 2 and 3 plumbing students will be going head to head in the competition, undergoing a series of tests throughout the day to push their practical plumbing skills to the limit, including installation, commissioning, plastic and copper piping.
The winner will then compete with five other regional finalists for the final taking place at the HIP-Ex exhibition on April 21-22.
The overall winner of the national final will win £1,000 worth of Plumbfix vouchers and £500 worth of vouchers for their college.
Marie Gildart, director of apprenticeships at Warrington Collegiate said: “Plumbing has become one of our most popular courses in recent times, with young people realising that it can be a varied and profitable career choice.
“There will be over 15 students from the region competing on the day, so the competition will be fierce, giving a perfect opportunity to showcase the great skills they’ve acquired during their training.”
