Carers urged to care

CARERS are being urged to “care” for their incomes and pensions by Warrington North MP Helen Jones.
She is backing Carers UK’s national carers’ rights campaign, which aims to increase the take-up of benefits and raise awareness of carer’s rights and help they may get to protect their pensions.
The organisation says there are more than six million unpaid carers in the UK looking after family, friends and neighbours – providing unpaid care worth an estimated £87 billion each year.
The MP said: “It’s a real concern that carers in Warrington may not be getting all the help they are entitled to. Carers are fulfilling a vital role in society and it is essential that they are given information about their rights so that they get the support they need in order to plan for their futures.”
Carers can get in touch with Carers UK’s Adviceline on 0800 808 7777 or www.carersuk.org to receive a free booklet, or can pick one up at Lloyds pharmacy stores.
Two new booklets are also being published – Caring about your pension and Looking after someone: A carer’s guide to rights and entitlements.
