LYMM Rugby Union Club reached the final of the Cheshire Cup for the first time since 1988 with a hard fought win against Division 3 side Birkenhead Park.
Credit must go to both sides as they served up a pulsating game in soggy conditions. The desire to win was clear to be seen.
Winger Butler returned from injury and replaced speedster Fletcher who joined the six others on the bench.
Coach Kinsey kept faith with the team from last week to see if they could cope with opposition from a higher level.
Dave Williamson, in scintillating form at 13, scored both tries and Knowles converted.
Man of the match Williamson stated: “If we can play like that every week we will win this league and compete well in the higher league next season.”
Assistant Coach Pickles praised the lads for; “a fantastic performance from all the lads, months of training and hard work paid off with our best performance of the season. However the standard has been set!”
Kinsey echoed these thoughts adding: “We demonstrated that we can compete at the next level. This game was a real benchmark in measuring our progress.”
The final will be on Easter Monday, on neutral ground, against Sale Jets , Sale’s formidable academy team.
