Daffodils for a field of hope

MAYOR of Warrington Brian Axcell is to plant daffodil bulbs in a “Field of Hope” for local people living with cancer.
The field has been created at Bent’s Garden and Home centre at Glazebury at Marie Curie Cancer Care – the centre’s charity of the year.
Planting will start at 1pm on Saturday, November 28 and the Mayor’s visit is timed for 2.30pm.
Local people are being invited along to join in the planting and there will be hot punch and mince pies laid on.
Matthew Bent, managing director at Bent’s said: “A lot of people have bought bulbs over the past six months, many of whom have done so in memory of their own loved one or someone special, so we thought it would be a lovely idea to give them the opportunity to plant their own bulb and see the Field of Hope take shape.”
The Marie Curie Field of Hope is being planted on land donated by the Forestry Commission to the rear of the centre.
It will be located at the finishing point of a “Walk in the Woods”, a special children’s walk that was launched with the Forestry Commission earlier this year. Picnic benches are perfectly positioned for visitors to enjoy the scene as the daffodils return every year.
So far this year, Bent’s have raised more than £5,600 for Marie Curie’s local nursing services.
Marie Curie local fundraiser Anne-Marie Wynne said: “I am delighted that Bent’s are planting a Field of Hope. Not only do they raise vital funds for the charity, they also enhance the local environment and give our supporters a tangible reminder of their loved ones. We hope everyone who bought a bulb will join us on the day and help make it an occasion to remember.”
