War on drugs gathers pace

THE police war on drug related crime in Warrington is gathering momentum, with five raids on properties in the west of the borough in the last week.
Two men have been charged and another been warned following the discovery of both Class A and Class B drugs.
The crackdown is continuing and Sgt Dan Lever, of Warrington West Neighbourhood Policing Unit said the raids follows receipt of information from the local community
He said: “These warrants are part of ongoing efforts to tackle the issue of drug use and supply and we would urge residents to continue providing us with any information.
“This type of information is vital and helps us to build up a bigger picture of what is happening in a particular area and to work out the best ways of dealing with any issues.
“The local community can rest assured that our efforts will continue and that we will continue to take positive action against those suspected of drug use and supply.”
Officers raided a property in Levens Close but no arrests were made and nothing was seized from the property.
But then officers executed another warrant at a property in Bewsey Street. They seized what is believed to be a quantity of Class B drugs. A 48-year-old man given a street warning for possession of cannabis.
A 36-year-old man was arrested after a raid at an address in Grange Drive, Penketh and was later charged with possession of Class A drugs.
Another house in Yardley Avenue was raided without anyone being charged but in a further raid on an address in Spurling Road, Burtonwood, police seized a quantity of Class A drugs and drugs paraphernalia. A 29-year-old man was later charged with possessing the drugs with intent to supply.
