Field drainage to cost £17,000

CROFT Parish Council has given the go-ahead for major drainage work on the village playing field.
Work costing around £17,000 will be carried out during the winter with the aim of ensuring the field will available for use, whatever the weather, next summer.
The bottom end of the field has regularly become waterlogged in recent years after heavy rain.
On one occasion Croft Carnival had to be moved off the field and held on two sites – one at the Youth Centre and the other on the car park opposite the Horseshoe pub – because the field was a quagmire.
On another occasion a car boot sale had to be cancelled because the field was flooded.
Parish council chairman Coun Les Hoyle said: “We have known this work would have to be done for some time, so we have put money aside for it.
“Now we hope to have the field properly drained for next year so that nothing has to be cancelled.”
