TWO senior figures from Warrington Council will don their running shoes to take part in the first English Half Marathon being held in the town on Sunday October 4.
Chief executive Diana Terris and council leader Ian Marks (pictured) will each be heading their own relay teams of senior councillors and senior officers to complete the 13.1 mile challenge.
Coun Marks said: “We hope this visible joining of the council’s political and leadership powers will encourage residents to be not only healthy and active but proud of where they live.
“This event has the potential to put Warrington on the sporting map and perhaps one day even to be as big as the Great North Run.”
Many other councillors and key officers will be joining the run alongside the English and Scottish half marathon teams and athletes from Ethiopia and Kenya.
Organisers are inviting spectators to cheer along the route, which starts and finishes at Victoria Park. Further details are available at www.english-half.co.uk
