High school project on target

WORK on the multi million £ new Culcheth High School is progressing well.
The contract is on schedule and the school should be ready to open on July 1 next year.
A feature of the new building is “The Street” – an internal street running the full length of the school and providing a link with virtually every department.
It will provide indoor space where pupils can socialise and also access to the school library, the cafeteria and IT suite where the youngsters will be able to surf the net and do other computer based work.
The school will have an impressive new entrance which will also serve the community facilities on site.
After the new school opens, contractors will remain on site for another 12 months, demolishing most of the old school.
But before that, it is hoped to give the old building a good send off.
School spokeswoman Amanda Stephens said: “We have been approached by a number of former pupils who would like to arrange some events in the old building before it is finally demolished.
“We want to do this and we are asking former pupils and staff to come up with ideas.
“If anyone has any bright ideas for special events they should contact us and we will see what can be arranged.”
