THE annual Bawming the Thorn ceremony at Appleton Thorn, near Warrington, takes place today. The event starts with a procession starting at 12.45pm which leads on to decorating the
famous thorn tree in the village centre.

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for a single-storey side extension and a roof over an existing courtyard at Culcheth Methodist Church in Ellesmere Road.
Hospital lottery
WINNING numbers in the weekly lottery run by the League of Friends of Warrington Hospital were 5, 11, 14 and 15. The jackpot prize went unclaimed and will be rolled over to
next week. A £25 consolation prize was awarded to a member of hospital staff.
Cats appeal
THE RSPCA is asking cat lovers to donate cat food to theie rehoming centre at Slutchers Lane, Warrington.
Donations can be taken to the centre or left in a collection bin at Asda Westbrook.
Orford fun
THE annual Orford Park Festival takes place today, with fairground rides, clowns, falconry and many other attractions starting from 12.30pm.
The Walking Day procession arrives at the park at about 1.15pm.
Rose Queen
EMILY Johnson, aged 13, will be crowned Thelwall Rose Queen today. The main procession from Thelwall Parish Hall gets under way at 2pm.
