Canal bridge to close for repairs

AN important crossing of the Manchester Ship Canal at Warrington is to be closed for essential maintenance work.
Traffic will be prohibited from using the Latchford High Level Bridge – the Cantilever – from Monday, July 6.
Pedestrians will also be banned from using the bridge from the same date.
Road traffic is expected to be banned for one night only, from 7pm to 7am, but the footpaths could be closed for up to six weeks
The restrictions will be in place as and when the signs are in place on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant contractor for the duration of the works.
An alternative route for vehicles travelling westbound on B5156 Station Road will be via Wash Lane, A5061 Knutsford Road, A50 Kingsway South, A50 Knutsford Road, Hunts Lane and Ackers Road.
The alternative route for vehicles travelling eastbound on B5156 Station Road will be via A50 Knutsford Road, Hunts Lane and Ackers Road.
An alternative route for vehicles travelling westbound on Ackers Road will be via A56 Grappenhall Road, A49 London Road, A49 Wilderspool Causeway, A5061 Knutsford Road and Wash Lane.
The alternative route for vehicles travelling eastbound on Ackers Road will be via Hunts Lane, A50 Knutsford Road, B5156 Station Road.
A temporary footway will be constructed for the duration of the works.
The reason for the temporary restrictions is to allow for structural maintenance works to the bridge to be carried out by the Manchester Ship Canal Company.
