Award winning choir to visit

AN award winning school choir from South Africa will be jetting into Warrington at the end of the month.
The choir, from Matseliso High School, in Soweto, is visiting the borough as part of its growing friendship with Culcheth High School.
During their stay they will sing at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral and also work with Culcheth High pupils in preparation for a concert with the Halle Orchestra, organised by Warrington’s education music service.
This will be a unique experience for the choir, which normally sings unaccompanied.
Culcheth’s head teacher Martyn Froggett visited South Africa last year and was deeply impressed by the commitment of both students and teachers to high standards of academic achievement
He said: “I was also inspired by the choir who sang in the playground to welcome the English visitors.
“Following a return visit earlier this year by their head of arts and culture, it has been possible, with support from the council and other partners, for 30 students from Soweto to come to our town at the end of June.
“Our pupils are really looking forward to this visit and we hope to give our new friends the best experience possible and make it a truly memorable trip.”
Local pupils are keen to show off the North West to their new African friends and have organised special outings.
They will see snow for the first time when they try skiing and snowboarding at the Chill Factor in Manchester, will spend a day in Blackpool and visit Wales before finishing off with a tour of Old Trafford and the MUFC Museum.
