Town face uncertain future

WARRINGTON Town FC are still unsure whether they will be playing in the Unibond Division One North or South next season, as a question mark hangs over the future of several clubs facing going out of business or administration due to a deepening financial crisis in the game.
Following a meeting of the FA Leagues Committee held in London yesterday (May 14) and in view of certain appeals which have been lodged it has not been possible to finalise the allocation of clubs across Steps 1 to 4.
Clubs and Leagues will be notified of all the changes after May 26.
Warrington finished 19th in the Unibond One North after previously finishing 13th in the Southern section the previous season.
While many in the game consider the Southern section an “easier” league to get promoted from, it would mean longer journeys for Town and their fans and fewer local derbies.
Warrington Town Chief Executive Gary Skentelbery said: “It is frustrating for everyone connected with the club not knowing which section we will be playing in next season. We are currently attempting to work out our budget for next season without knowing how much travelling we will be doing, or knowing who will be playing.
“The chance of playing more local derbies, attracting larger crowds, especially when playing the likes of FC Halifax Town, makes a huge difference to a club’s income.
“On balance we would prefer to stay in the North but we have no say in our future and will abide by the F.A’s decision.”
