WARRINGTON will field a team in the top flight of women’s cricket this summer.
The side will play at Warrington Cricket Club’s Walton Lea ground and will compete in the ECB’s elite Premier League North.Skipper will be wicket-keeper Lauren Griffiths, a member of England’s World Cup winning squad and the side will also include England A all-rounder Dawn Prestidge.
Warrington has not previously had a women’s cricket team, although Appleton fields a side in the Cheshire league.
It has acquired one as a result of a merger with the former women’s team at The Tytherington Club, in Macclesfield.
As the Tytherington Club won the Premier League North last year, the Warrington girls will effectively start with a title defence! The first game is at home against Sheffield United on Sunday, April 26 at 11am.
A number of other promising young players will be in the Warrington side including opening batsman Hannah Gradwell and off-spinner Lorna Thomas.
As Warrington will be the only women’s side in Cheshire, it will be able to call upon almost all the county side.
