WARRINGTON’S new look Central Library has been officially opened following a major refit which has given it a definite “wow factor.”
The Mayor, Coun Graham Welborn, performed the opening ceremony.
The library, in Museum Street, now has a new reception area and better computer access, comfortable areas for quiet study and reading and better spaces for children and young people.
It also has newly installed self-issue technology which is proving popular with users and staff. A further benefit for customers is late night opening until 7pm on Thursdays, to coincide with late night opening in the town centre.
Coun Roy Smith, the borough council’s executive member for community services, said: “I am very excited about these renovations and improvements.
“They have a very definite ‘wow’ factor and I think that the residents of Warrington will agree. The changes will make using the library a much more enjoyable experience for its many users both young and old.”
A series of events are planned at the library tomorrow (Thursday) for World Book Day, including book crossing (where people leave their own read books in public places for others to take home), and a re-launch of the rhyme time for parents and young children.
