NEW community rooms are to be officially opened at the church of St Cross, Appleton Thorn, on Tuesday, March 3.
The Bishop of Birkenhead will open the facilities, made possible by a £50,000 Biffaward grant.
Appleton Thorn has had few facilities for years. The church provided a small meeting room, but did not have a toilet or kitchen.
These have now been provided, thanks to the grant awarded 12 months ago.
Local people have also raised money towards the project.
The aim of the project was to enhance facilities for the local community in Appleton Thorn and already Praise and Play – for pre-school children – Coffee Time and concerts from local bands have started up.
The space has become much more user friendly for all ages and the building can now be used to enhance the curriculum for the local schools and pre-school.
Gillian French, Biffaward programme manager, said: “Biffaward is delighted to support this project, which has been led by local volunteers. The enhanced church will provide a warm, welcoming venue for all kinds of community activities.”
Project co-ordinator George Bruce said: “The new community rooms are officially opened on Tuesday March 3 at 7.30pm by The Bishop of Birkenhead. The community is welcome to attend the opening ceremony.”
