Holly rows her way to gold

JUST 12 months after she started rowing a Lymm teenager has achieved success and won two gold medals.
Holly McMullen, 13, of Orchard Avenue, won gold at the British Indoor Rowing Championships in Birmingham in October in the J13 section when she rowed 776 metres in a three minute time trial.
In February she completed 800 metres in the same time to secure gold at the English Indoor Rowing Championship at Manchester Velodrome.
Her parents Shirley and Colin and brother Harry, 9, are all proud of her success. Colin enjoys sailing and is hoping to get Harry interested in the sport.
Shirley, who used to ride, said before Easter last year Holly spent all her time riding and looking after her horse Molly at High Legh.
But she then took up rowing, at her school, Lymm High School, and with Warrington Rowing Club. She fits in her horse riding when she can but sees her horse every day.
Shirley said: “Holly trains really hard with the rowing group and has done really well. We are all pleased with her success.”
Her training includes indoor rowing on machines, circuit training and rowing with the club on the River Mersey at Kingsway.
