Climate change minister in town

CLIMATE Change Minister Ed Miliband visited Warrington to see for himself some of the cutting-edge technology that is being employed by a local business working in the renewable energy market.
The minister was invited to the town by Warrington South MP Helen Southworth and went to see Novera, whose operational base is in Centre Park and is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, operating from more than 50 sites across Britain.
In addition to generating renewable power as part of the UK’s aim to produce 20 per cent of domestic energy from renewable sources by 2020, the company refurbishes generators which are used on landfill sites to convert gases into electricity.
The Minister’s visit, which formed part of the Government’s commitment to develop the low carbon economy, came as the Prime Minister announced that a programme of investment in green jobs and the environment would be set out in the coming weeks.
Mr Miliband said: “It’s great to see the green industry in action here in Warrington, using innovation and technology to create jobs and prosperity. The rest of Britain has lots to learn from what is happening here in Warrington and the North West.”
Mrs Southworth said: “I was really pleased to be able to show Ed around the Novera site, and to introduce him to the key staff working in Warrington, from the chief executive to the apprentice working to refurbish the generators on the workshop floor, and I know that he was very impressed by the innovative approach to renewable energy taken by the company.
“Novera is just one example of the type of high-tech companies that are choosing to base themselves in Warrington”.
